If any subject has given better solutions to our relentless Meta physical questions regarding life and it’s manifestations, there is none better than Mathematics. Mathematicians for over thousand years have been coming up with abstract mathematical equations which may or may not really hold any relevance to our lives as such. Even though these formulas or equations were created in a different time-frame and without any material base, it’s interesting how they perfectly fit into definition of our daily lives.

One mathematician I particularly like is Pythagoras. The first 4 numbers defined in Pythagoras tradition, are pretty much capable of describing the entire world.

The dot or number 1 represent the beginning of the universe. It’s the first transition from unknown to the known.
The line created by connecting 2 dots gives birth to number 2 and the one dimensional reality.
The triangle or any plane can be defined by three points not lying on a single line. The number 3 gives birth to the two dimensional reality.
The number four, which can be considered combination of above three numbers defines the 3-dimensional reality into which we reside.

Our entire understanding of the world can be described using these 4 numbers alone. An entirely new number system can be found using number 4 as base. It’s interesting how mathematics can so accurately define our life, although its subject matter was not necessarily created with the purpose of making any material sense at all. We cannot prove the right angle triangle equation using physical objects as it’s impossible to create perfect right angle triangle, still the equation holds true and is part of our everyday solutions.

The famous Right angle triangle equation, the fabled irrational number pi (22/7) which defines all the circles, the Fibonacci series which defines the pattern in a sea shell, or the formation of leaves on some trees, the probability theory which defines a lot of our life, and also the activity at sub-atomic level, beautiful equations  which define the planetary moments, also the activity of entire cosmos as such. Though these formulas weren’t created with the purpose of defining materialism, the material reality seems to perfectly fit into their definition.

Let me confess I don’t understand much of mathematics. However there is something about this subject that has left me in such awe and wonder. Like music it doesn’t matter if I don’t understand the process of creation of mathematical entities. I know the taste, I know how the world around me has been transformed as result of its application. I can almost certainly enjoy it. 🙂
